Cool Man Tan in the Pool

We had another successful day at the pool: everyone had a great time! Tanner loves the pool (and he loves wearing his sweet new swimming shirt, too). He especially loves riding on his daddy's back like a horse. He's not afraid of the water at all. What a brave little dude!

Swimming in the Ocean

Last week, we all went to Grand Anse Beach for some sandy fun. Tanner got in the ocean water for the first time, and he did really well! Although he had a blank look on his face the entire time, I think he really liked it. He was just entranced by the waves.

Random Awesomeness

This is us with our friends, the Andreasons, hiking back from Mt. Caramel.

In these two pictures, you can see that our little guys is going bald. The top of his head hardly has any hair anymore, and there's a huge bald spot on the back of his head. This just started happening in the last week!
Tanner accidentally pulled a blanket over his face and he didn't know what to do. He was so stressed out about it that his arm was shaking wildly. Poor guy! Mommy was mean enough to grab the camera first before helping him out.
Tanner likes to hang out with us while we play card games. He helps Josh win.

Tanner-Nanner

My two boys passed out on the bed after a tiring day. Like father, like son.

He's showing off his thunder thighs in this one.
Tanner is getting really good at sitting up! He just needs a little support from the chair.

Funny Shots

I now have to put a bib on Tanner all the time, but not to catch food-- it's for the purpose of catching his slobber. Otherwise his outfit gets entirely soaked on the front really fast.
This is Tanner hanging out with his new friend, Brynn. The Andreasons, our friends from back home, are visiting us for the next couple of weeks (more pictures to come!).  Tanner was about to have a bath when I took this picture (I don't normally let him hang out in his diaper like this!).
Who knows what he was thinking?

Breadfruit Oil Down

Grenada's national dish is called Breadfruit Oil Down. It's basically a mushy stew with lots of vegetables and breadfruit soaked in coconut milk. At a local fruit stand, a Grenadian woman sold me all of the ingredients that you need for it and she explained the recipe to me. She also cut up all of the produce for me. In this picture, the white wedges are breadfruit. It's hard like a potato, so it has to be cooked. There's also a green onion and a chili pepper. The stuff that looks like spinach is called callaloo. The little bag has saffron spice. The only ingredient missing from this picture is the fresh coconut, which I used to make coconut milk.
You first place the breadfruit like this in a pot.
Then add the onion and peppers.
Then add the callaloo, saffron, and any other spices that you want.
Last, pour the coconut milk over everything and simmer it for a long time. At the end, I added ground beef. The locals generally add fish, but all I had was beef.
The dish actually turned out really good! It even looks like some of the pictures online. It's a very tasty dish, and I think I'll make it again sometime.

Fruit Stand Wonders

I went to a local fruit stand the other day and I bought some interesting fruit. From left to right, top to bottom, these are the fruits: papaya, mangoes, limes, sapodillas, and water lemon.
This is the inside of the sapodilla. It's totally disgusting.
This is the papaya. It's pretty good, although I'm surprised that I didn't like it as much as I thought I would.
These were the BEST freaking mangoes I've ever had.

Wild and Crazy Boy

 Yes, that is spit-up.
The other day, Josh set Tanner down on his play mat a couple feet away from the couch. We looked away for ten seconds, and when we looked back, Tanner was gone! We found him under the couch against the wall. Josh had to move the couch away from the wall to get him out!

Floor Time

Tanner loves his new mat. He is a roley poley now because he can roll over from his back to belly AND belly to back. He is also really good at lifting his head. He got his new mat just in time for all of these new skills!

Our Apartment

For those of you who wanted to know what our apartment looks like, I finally took some pictures. This is our front room and kitchen area. The entire apartment is tile. Every building that I've been to here is tile. I haven't felt carpet in months! But anyway, we like our apartment. It's a nice little place for our family for now.

Play Time

Tanner just got a new play mat from our neighbors. It's wonderful because I don't have to worry about him getting hurt! He is quite content to just roll around on it while I clean the house and do other things. (It can be a lot bigger than in the picture. You can add more squares to it. I was just lazy that day and didn't feel like setting them all up.) Tanner is also enjoying his hanging toys from Grandma Niederhauser.

New Skill: Flipping Over

Tanner has finally discovered how to flip over from his back to his belly. Every time he does, he freaks out and I have to roll him over to his back again. But he keeps doing it over and over again! I have a very hyperactive baby.
