Boston: Day 1

Last week, we went on a little trip with my parents (Grandma and Grandpa Niederhauser) to Boston and the northeastern states. I'm going to separate the different parts of the trip into their own blog posts. So here we have our first day in Boston-- it was totally awesome! My favorite part of the trip. We walked the Boston Freedom Trail, which takes you to all the historical sites in Boston- and there are a LOT! It was amazing to finally see in person all of the sites that I have only read about in history class. And despite all of the walking, the kids did great! What a wonderful experience.

 Boston Common
(It is a large grassy park right in the middle of the city, very similar to Central Park in New York City.)

 Massachusetts State House

Burial grounds where colonists were buried back in the 1600's and 1700's. Many famous people are buried here, such as John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and Paul Revere.

This is our hotel, which the Freedom Trail goes past. It is a super nice hotel right in downtown. It's where the Boston Cream Pie was first created.

This is the Old State House, where the Boston massacre occurred. In 1776, the Declaration of Independence was first read to the people of Boston from that balcony.

In this picture, you can see the Freedom Trail mark under Tanner's feet. Pretty cool.

 Statue of Paul Revere

This is the U.S.S. Constitution, the country's oldest warship still in commission. It was named by President George Washington and was built in 1797. (It is currently undergoing some restorations, which is why it's on land and there's scaffolding, etc.)
