The Life of a Mom

I've got my hands full with this kid! Every day is something new. Like a few days ago, when I heard a loud bang and saw that Tanner had knocked over the end table that you see in this picture. He thought he was pretty cool because it made him look tough. I, however, thought otherwise.
I also found him digging through my trash once. He had thrown off the lid, knocked over the can, and was reaching into the bag for some goodies.
One day, he wanted to weigh himself, apparently.
And he loves loves loves to hang out in the kitchen with me when I'm cooking and washing dishes. No matter how many times I pick him up and carry him into the living room, he always ends up in the kitchen with me. He must love being near his mommy. What a sweetie!
I just thought this was a cute smile. No mischief here.
Tanner is learning to stand up all by himself now, while holding onto something. He's figuring it out quick!

Trip to Gouyave

Yesterday, we went to an LDS church meeting on the north side of the island. There's a small group of members up there who meet every week for church in a city named Gouyave (pronounced like "guav"). Our branch president has people from our area of the island travel to their meeting every once in a while to show support. These are pictures of the bus ride. The top picture is a little blurry, but it still shows how small the buses are. They're called reggae buses. Even though they are small, they can pack a lot of people in them. And they drive really fast. The drive to Gouyave was about 45 minutes.
The building that the members meet in is actually the missionaries' apartment. But they still have a church sign out front, which we though was pretty cool.
We took this picture to show how a lot of the buildings are here. They build them up on stilts. (This is underneath the missionaries' apartment.)

Tanner was a good boy during this trip. He did get fussy during Sunday school, but he eventually fell asleep in my arms and took a good long nap. Then he was much happier the rest of the trip. We're hoping he'll be able to fall asleep in my arms during our plane ride in a few weeks (crossing our fingers).

Eight Teeth

The crazy kid has got eight teeth now: four on top, and four on bottom. These pictures show them pretty well. Most of them haven't grown out of the gums to their full length yet, but they're starting to stick out pretty far. (And yes, that IS Tanner's foot in the top picture. Haha.)

Scooting Around

Tanner scoots around on his belly everywhere now. He loves to explore the apartment, so he rarely ever stays on his play mat anymore. This is a pretty good video showing off his skills, although he can scoot faster than this. When he wants something, he can scoot super fast toward it. He just wouldn't do it for the camera.

When Josh and I were eating dinner earlier this week, Tanner scooted under the table. He has a new fort now!

Keeping Busy

I took Tanner to the beach a few days ago. We had fun chilling in the shade with some friends and then taking a dip in the ocean. He had so much fun, he didn't even cry the entire trip!

Tanner is getting really tired of his usual toys, so I tried to find something new and exciting for him to play with. I gave him an empty box of vanilla wafers, which he was extremely intrigued by for a long time... until I had to take it away because he was chewing pieces of cardboard off of it! So much for that idea.

Then I remembered that I brought a roll toy from the states (it was given to Tanner by Aunt Jenny). So Josh blew it up, and we let Tanner go to town! He really likes it, especially since it has little bells inside that make noise when it rolls.
All this play time makes Tanner so tired. We found him sprawled out like this one night, and it was so cute, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a picture!

Easter at the Flats

This is Tanner sucking on his first Easter egg at the party by the beach. He seems to really like pink plastic eggs.
Back at the Flats (our apartment building), we had an Easter dinner and egg hunt for the kids. It was a really fun get-together with all our neighbors! This is a picture of all the kids at the Flats.
Here are the Flats women: me, Zu Whitney, Kensi Reece, and Kim Ahlstrom.

Tanner Laughing

One night, Tanner decided that the soccer ball was funny. He hasn't laughed at the soccer ball since then, so it's a good thing we got it on camera!

Toothy Photos

"Mommy, am I going to need braces when I get older?" Although these aren't his adult teeth, they're probably a good indicator of how his adult teeth will grow in. But who knows? I guess we'll see.

Floaty Toy

We borrowed a floaty toy from our friends, and Tanner loved it! He got to "walk" around the kiddie pool all by himself (like he does in his car at home). He wasn't scared at all. What a brave little dude!

Swimming Day

Here are some cute shots of our silly baby swimming in the pool with us. You can tell that he's confused about why his daddy stole his hat. He looks a little unsure about things in that picture...
